The Casino and the City
These days, a casino is a status symbol for a city, another symbol of its identity and a non-stop centre for entertainment, 365 days a year. It provides a wide variety of alternative entertainment, relaxation and culture. The casino is an undoubted tourist attraction and an important part of a city's leisure activities, promoting tourism, creating employment and bringing in direct and indirect profits.
The taxes paid by casinos also contribute to the economic development of the community and therefore help to distribute wealth more evenly. Casinos are subjected to a very strict fiscal regime, since they are liable to special taxes over and above those of any other business in the city or in the leisure sector. Casinos de Catalunya pays a high rate of direct gambling tax, plus a high rate of tax on its economic activity or IAE in Spain, as well as the normal tax paid by all companies.
